Hidden cameras caught a very rare anoa birth on film, likely for the very first time ever. The Chester Zoo in England shared its footage of an anoa giving birth to her calf, along with the baby’s first steps on TikTok. Anoa are the smallest species of wild cattle in the world. They live on the Indonesian islands of Sulawesi and Buton. Since the species’ range is relatively limited, this is probably the first time humans have ever seen an anoa birth.
“WORLD FIRST! Our hidden cameras have captured the birth of a rare anoa calf . . . and her very first steps,” wrote the Chester Zoo in its post sharing the special video. “Meet baby Kasimbar and watch her first time exploring outdoors!”
After she’s born, the anoa calf cuddles with her mother. The first part of Chester Zoo’s video shows the birth, and the second half of the video shows the calf exploring outside, munching on leaves and being cute.
